Blossoming readers’ doggy-favorite, Ike LaRue, is as witty as ever in his latest escapade, LaRue Across America: Postcards From the Vacation. No sympathy is spared for his neighbor when her hospitalization causes LaRue to spend his vacation with two rascally cats. Double page spreads play host to a set of postcards, which tell the comical story, and show-off Mark Teague’s waggish illustrations. While LaRue might not be so happy, we have good news for you: we have two copies to giveaway. Giveaway begins March 15, 2011, at 12:01 A.M. PST and ends April 12, 2011, at 11:59 P.M. PST.

Book overview: Ike’s plan for a peaceful cruise with Mrs. LaRue are thwarted when their neighbor, Mrs. Hibbins, falls suddenly ill. Mrs. LaRue suggests that she and Ike care for her cats while Mrs. Hibbins is in the hospital, inviting them along on the cruise. But cats aren’t allowed, and Mrs. LaRue decides to take them all on a week’s vacation of road-tripping. Ike is beside himself and quickly takes up his pen to tell us why!
Join award-winner Mark Teague on this romping road trip across America. Readers can follow along on the maps of the U.S. that span the endpapers. Teague drives us to the story’s satisfying conclusion, and we are left with one profound question: Can cats and dogs really be friends?
About the Author: Mark Teague is an award-winning children’s book author and illustrator whose books include DEAR MRS. LARUE: LETTERS FROM OBEDIENCE SCHOOL, the 2002 Book Sense Illustrated Book of the Year; DETECTIVE LARUE: LETTERS FROM THE INVESTIGATION; LARUE FOR MAYOR: LETTERS FROM THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL; FUNNY FARM; and PIGSTY. He is also the illustrator of the NEW YORK TIMES bestselling How Do Dinosaurs series by Jane Yolen. Mark lives in Hudson Valley, New York, with his wife and daughters.

My Great Pyrenees and I are involved with a Children Reading to Dogs Program and our readers would love LaRue Across America.
Mark Teague has found as delightful an animal series as Eileen Cronin’s Farmer Brown’s farm animals. I’m looking forward to being able to reading this book to my 1st and 2nd grade students who are “reading around America” this year as they also learn library skills.
