Brava, Strega Nona! A Heartwarming Pop-Up Book, by Tomie dePaola | Book Review
Reading level: Ages 1 and up
Hardcover: 12 pages
Publisher: Putnam Juvenile; Pop edition (October 30, 2008)
Reveiw: A superb, paper extravaganza! Strega Nona literally POPS from the page, sharing messages of family, patience and eating together. Tomie collaborated with Robert Sabuda and Matthew Reinhart for 4 years to make this soulful book into the masterpiece that it is. There are windows and doors that open, spaghetti that flows from the page, and a fountain that spins. Each page offers a delightful experience that both kids and adults will enjoy. A great choice for a gift book. If you don’t believe me, take it from the editors of the magazine Real Simple. They have featured Brava, Strega Nona! in their cover story, 50 Fabulous Gifts Under $50. This is what they had to say:
“There’s nothing sleepy about this new version of Tomie dePaola’s classic bedtime story, thanks to all the tabs and doors to pull and open.”
