If You Were Me and Lived in Turkey by Carole P. RomanIf You Were Me and Lived in … Turkey: A Child’s Introduction to Culture Around the World

    By Carole P. Roman

    Paperback: 26 pages

    Age Range: 3-8

    Publisher: CreateSpace (November 29, 2013)

    ISBN-13: 978-1481979849

What to expect: Turkey, Places, Turkish words, Culture, Geography, History

Are you ready to travel off to yet another amazing country with award-winning author and former social studies teacher Carole P. Roman? This time she takes young readers to the only country that has a major city that sits on two continents. Yes kids, pack your bags, grab your annem (mom) and baba (dad), you’re going to delightful Turkey!

Once children who are new to geography get past the fact that there is indeed a country named like the US Thanksgiving icon, they’ll be whisked off by the kid narrators on an adventure through one of Turkey’s major cities (Istanbul). They’ll get to try out a Turkish name (3 samples for boys and 3 samples for girls are provided), visit the market and learn that lira is used to pay for things, and they’ll even do some site-seeing at a historical site and pick up some history facts along the way. Kids will especially love knowing that every year on April 23, Children’s Day is celebrated. The illustrator always does a nice job with the illustrations by making sure that the rich colors of every culture explored are shown. And a bonus pronunciation guide is easy to find on the last page.
