    About the Author

    MARGERY WILLIAMS (1881–1944) published The Velveteen Rabbit in 1922—the first and best known of her 30 books for young people. She was born in London, and lived her later years in Greenwich Village, New York.

    About the Illustrator

    WILLIAM NICHOLSON (1872–1949) illustrated several books, but was primarily known during his lifetime as a portrait painter. Many of his portraits and still lifes hang today in museums and galleries throughout England, where he was born. He was knighted in 1936.
