What to expect: Cats, Horses, Veterinarian, Home, New Friends
As the title suggests, Odie is a stray kitten. It’s winter and Odie is cold, scared, hungry and in need of finding a home. With great luck, Odie comes across a barn with two horses and huddles into a corner filled with hay. The next morning, a girl and a cat enter the barn and so begins the tale of how Odie made new friends and found a forever home.
“I want to keep him and give him a forever home. He will be a great mouser for the barn when he grows up. I will call him Odie. It means inspiration.”
Animal lovers will feel great emotions when Odie is fed and given a warm place to sleep—they will also enjoy the wellness visit to the veterinarian to ensure that Odie is healthy. Each double page spread includes a full color illustration to match the story, making it suitable for a nice quiet story time between a caregiver and child. It is also a good match for early fluent readers who are ready for longer sentences and richer vocabulary.
Through the sincere and straightforward storytelling of Odie and the Stray Kitten, Author Kristen Mott shares a lovely message of just how meaningful showing kindness toward animals can be. Readers also learn that, with time, it is possible to overcome fear, regain a sense of security, and that new friends can become family.
