Uni the Unicorn By Amy Krouse RosenthalUni the Unicorn

    By Amy Krouse Rosenthal

    Illustrated by Brigette Barrager

    Age Range: 3-7

    Hardback: 48 pages

Publisher: Random House Books for Young Readers

    ISBN: 978-0-375-98208-8

What to expect: Unicorns, Fairy Tales, Believing, Friendship

Uni the Unicorn is an adorable tale about believing, no matter how fantastical it might seem.

Uni the Unicorn is just like the other Unicorns, she has a horn, a beautiful mane, and can grant wishes; however, she gets laughed at by the other Unicorns for believing in little girls (how absurd!). She reads about them in fairy tales and draws pictures to hang on her wall. But she doesn’t care what they say, because she knows in her heart that little girls are real, and someday she might meet one. And in a distant land, a little girl dreams of unicorns being real, no matter what anyone says. She hopes that someday she might meet a Unicorn, too. Because if you believe in magic, it just might exist just for you. And that includes Unicorns.

This beautifully illustrated book is a delightful addition to any little girl’s library. Girls who are especially intrigued by fantastical mystical creatures will love the message that yes, Virginia, there just might be a real Unicorn out there. Even younger children will enjoy the simple prose and will eventually be able to read it themselves, which is sure to make this book a favorite. The illustrations are charming and beautiful, spanning both book pages. I was impressed with the large size of the book, which made the illustrations even easier to see and appreciate.

This is a perfect gift for the little girl who isn’t ready to give up on her dreams of meeting a Unicorn somewhere, someday.
