    Paperback Book: 24 pages

    Age Range: 3-5 years

Publisher: Penguin Random House, Grosset & Dunlap

What to expect: Ella the Elephant, Mother’s Day

Ella the Elephant is back in this charming book about Mother’s Day, with a big surprise!

Ella and Frankie are planning an exciting Mother’s Day event for their mom’s special day. Ella has created a wonderful card for her mother and wants to visit all of the special places her mom went to as a child. Ella is sure her mom will love reliving the fun she used to have at her old stomping grounds. She tells her friends that it will be the best Mother’s Day ever. Frankie is going to take his mom skateboarding with her brand new helmet. Everyone has big, ambitious plans.

But, to Ella’s disappointment, a rain storm interferes with her outing. While reconvening at the bakery for a batch of scrumptious blueberry pancakes, Ella asks her mom what she did when rain ruined their plans when she was a little elephant. Her mom says they pretended that the indoors was outdoors! Ella gets a fantastic idea. Frankie and his mom come over, too, since their skateboarding plans have been rained out. It turns out that Frankie’s mom and Ella’s mom were friends when they were little, and played in all of the places on the card together. Ella and Frankie decide to recreate all of their mothers’ favorite hangouts indoors! For the finale, Ella uses her magical hat to make a swing for the mother’s to sit on. Mother’s Day is saved, and more special than ever. When the sun comes out, they all enjoy a special picnic.

This is an adorable book for children familiar with Ella the Elephant, and a great way to introduce new little ones to this sweet character. The illustrations are just like the animated show and instantly familiar. The prose is perfect for the age group, 3-5, and very accessible. This book is a fun treat for Mother’s Day reading and snuggling! Highly recommended.
