Glasses is an adorable book that shows children the importance and benefits of wearing glasses. Photographs of happy babies, toddlers and preschool age children wearing brightly colored glasses adorn the pages. Along with happy children, this book includes catchy rhymes and descriptive words to engage young readers. “Some glasses are red. Some glasses are blue. I think your glasses look great on you!” is an example of what you can expect when diving into this book.

Heide M. Woodworth has outdone herself with the photography in this book. The images of happy children in colorful glasses will have your little one sporting any glasses that they can find around the house. After reading this book, don’t be surprised if your little one insists on wearing their play glasses while joining you at the table for their next meal.  Ann Gwinn Zawistoski’s writing and use of catchy rhymes make this a real page-turner. Along with this being great literature, there is research worth noting on the importance of young children wearing glasses if needed. According to the “American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus” (2015), “because a child’s visual system is growing and developing, especially during the first 5-6 years of life, glasses may play an important role in ensuring normal development of vision, (1). If a child does not wear the glasses prescribed, normal vision development can be adversely affected,” (6).

If you are a parent who is concerned with your child’s vision and wondering how in the world you will get your child to wear glasses, this book is for you! This book is also highly recommended for young children who wear glasses or may need to wear glasses in the future.
