The Children’s Book Review: Which five words best describe Geekerella: A Novel?

Ashley Poston: Fandom. Food-trucks. Films. Cinderella. Favorite OTP.

If you had to take a vacation with one of the characters from Geekerella: A Novel, who would it be? Why?

I would definitely take a vacation with Sage – I think we’d both like to go to the same places (not the beach) and try crazy foods (and eat lots of bacon). She likes adventure and daring, so if nothing else the vacation would be memorable!

What has been the best reaction from a reader, so far?

This is going to sound super nerdy, but my favorite reaction so far has been a reader who has identified all of the different fandoms in Geekerella!

What’s on your nightstand? Any books?

A notepad because I always get the best ideas right as I’m about to go to sleep, and a copy of Julie Murphy’s Ramona Blue!

For your writing energy: sugar or salt, tea or coffee?

The unbridled energy of space-unicorn laughter.

Writing tools: computer, pen and paper, or all of the above?

Both! Pen and paper when I’m maniacally plotting, and computer when I’m finally ready to bring this Frankenstein’s monster to life.

Can you tell us one more thing we may not know about Geekerella: A Novel, your writing style, or yourself?

The dedication in Geekerella might sound like it’s to a certain Lord of the Rings group, but it’s actually dedicated to my real-life partners in crime who helped me through one of the toughest writing years of my life. They went with me, hand in hand, to Mordor. Without them, Geek wouldn’t exist!

Geekerella- A Fangirl Fairy TaleGeekerella

Written by Ashley Poston

Publisher’s Synopsis: Cinderella goes to the con in this fandom-fueled twist on the classic fairy tale.
Part romance, part love letter to nerd culture, and all totally adorbs, Geekerella is a fairy tale for anyone who believes in the magic of fandom. Geek girl Elle Wittimer lives and breathes Starfield, the classic sci-fi series she grew up watching with her late father. So when she sees a cosplay contest for a new Starfield movie, she has to enter. The prize? An invitation to the ExcelsiCon Cosplay Ball, and a meet-and-greet with the actor slated to play Federation Prince Carmindor in the reboot. With savings from her gig at the Magic Pumpkin food truck (and her dad’s old costume), Elle’s determined to win…unless her stepsisters get there first.

Teen actor Darien Freeman used to live for cons—before he was famous. Now they’re nothing but autographs and awkward meet-and-greets. Playing Carmindor is all he’s ever wanted, but the Starfield fandom has written him off as just another dumb heartthrob. As ExcelsiCon draws near, Darien feels more and more like a fake—until he meets a girl who shows him otherwise.
