What to Expect: Reader Interaction, Animals, Habitats, Colors

Liza Charlesworth knows how to make learning fun and it is evident in the books that she writes for children, parents and teachers. Her latest must-read is no different! She takes readers on an interactive, colorful journey in the world of animals.

This board book highlights seven habitats including the forest, arctic, and the ocean. Each double page spread, illustrated by Brandon Reese, shows the overall environment, vegetation, and the animals that call it home. The colors match well with the type of environment. The forest is filled with different shades of green while the savanna is more brown and tan hues.

With each habitat comes a wheel that can be turned on the edge of each page. Pictured on the wheel are animals that are found in that particular habitat along with their name. This interactive wheel takes seek-n-find books to another level. Children of all ages can enjoy scouring the pages for the animals while learning the vocabulary. For example, in the desert habitat, readers make the connection between words like “hottest home”, “sun”, and “sand.”

For toddlers, this book can be used twofold; not only recognizing animals, but also to point out colors and to recall their animal sounds. This multi-faceted book can be used not only in the home, but also in the classroom when teaching about animals and their habitats in the 2nd and 3rd grades. This is a book that your child will be learning from for a long time!
