    The Children’s Book Review | October 24, 2018

Welcome to this second innovative installment of our exciting new “Learn to Draw” series. This time, illustrator Shawn Harris teaches us how to create a bear by cutting paper and drawing with a pen. It’s the same bear that appears in his latest collaboration with author Dave Eggers, What Can a Citizen Do?, a book about what citizenship—good citizenship—means to you, and to us all. With clear, concise descriptions of what a citizen can do and the depiction of many diverse characters, we give What Can a Citizen Do? the TCBR stamp of approval.

Grab a pair of scissors, a pen, and a piece of paper. Let’s learn to draw together!

We hope you’ll share your drawings with us on Facebook and Instagram by using #learntodrawonTCBR and tagging us: @thechildrensbookreview, @shawnharri5, and @chroniclebooks

Publisher’s Synopsis: Empowering and timeless, What Can a Citizen Do? is the latest collaboration from the acclaimed duo behind the bestselling Her Right Foot: Dave Eggers and Shawn Harris. This is a book for today’s youth about what it means to be a citizen.

Across the course of several seemingly unrelated but ultimately connected actions by different children, we watch how kids turn a lonely island into a community—and watch a journey from what the world should be to what the world could be.
