What to expect: Witches, Family, Good Vs. Evil, Fantasy, Action

If you’re looking for a good fantasy book to transition from the young adult genre into the new adult genre, Michael Okon’s Witches Protection Program is your next read.

Wes Rockville struggles to shine in his family of high achievers—he is one big disappointment to his father. After a failed assignment as a law enforcement agent, Wes is reassigned to a secret agency: The Witches Protection Program. Wes does not believe in witches, making it difficult for him to accept that witches are actually integrated into society. However, his job along with his veteran partner Alastair, is to protect Morgan Pendragon, the heiress to Pendragon Cosmetics, a global cosmetics company,.

Very quickly, Wes is immersed into the undeniably real world of witches—a world that consists of Divinas and Willas (good witches versus bad witches.) And it turns out that witchcraft may be behind a new product from the global cosmetics company. The product could potentially give one witch the ability to take over the world. Morgan Pendragon, who Wes has been assigned to protect, could possibly be the right witch to help uncover a major plot for world domination.

Michael Okon has brewed up a wonderful bubbling concoction with his easy-to-read style—the recipe: action, a lesson in consumerism, a little brewing romance, some steampunk weaponry, a plot twist and (in Okon style) elements of rich witch history. It could easily be likened to “Men in Black” meets “The Witches of Eastwick,” with a small moment of “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.”

Witches Protection Program is a book filled with believable elements of fantasy. It’s a great choice for those that enjoy an easy read, exciting moments steeped in action and a nice dusting of comedy. Readers are sure to be charmed.
