The Children’s Book Review

Hello, Neighbor! Learn and Love with Books Starring Mister Rogers

There is just something about the name Mister Rogers that tends to create smiles on people’s faces.  Perhaps it is because we are instantly taken back to our childhood, watching him every afternoon and listening to his soft yet encouraging words.  Mister Rogers introduced us to the world of make-believe, literally and figuratively.  Along with his puppet friends (including the famous Daniel Tiger), he tackled difficult topics such as death and divorce in a gentle, loving way.

Recently, a selection of new books was published, giving some perspective of Mister Rogers to the young and old.  An entire generation has yet to be introduced to such a gentle-man, but they will be after reading these sweet tributes.

Mister Rogers is best known for his simple songs that teach lessons, validate feelings, and ease fears.  This treasured 3 book series of his poetry can be used in a classroom or at bedtime. The words resonate with those of any age, starting with infants.  We all secretly learn a little something from each of these songs.  The books are skillfully illustrated by Luke Flowers to fit the theme of each song.  The clever illustrations are colorful, diverse, and really capture the true essence of Mister Rogers.  The poetry book is a great addition to anyone’s shelf and provides lovely insight into life’s big lessons.  The board books, especially, make for great learning tools to teach empathy and kindness to younger children.  All three are wonderful reminders of the insightful man we know of as Mister Fred Rogers.
