Nita’s Day: More Signs for Babies and Parents

    Written by Kathy MacMillan

    Illustrated by Sara Brezzi

    Ages 1-3 | 12 Pages

Publisher: Familius Inc. | ISBN: 9781641701488

What to Expect: ASL, Sign Language, Daily Activities

Nita is back with more fun sign language for children and parents to learn!  MacMillan, an ASL interpreter and storyteller, originally introduced readers to 10 essential need-to-know signs in her 2018 book, Nita’s First Signs.  In her newest book, she presents ten new concepts that take the reader through their day from waking up to potty to playing to bed and everything in between.

The story may be simple, but the concepts are in bold and are reinforced within the text and pictures as we see Nita’s parents helping her with the various activities throughout the day.  This interactive book encourages readers to slide open each page for a more detailed description and image of the individual sign that is highlighted. The beautiful, full-page illustrations not only add to the story but support the overall instruction that is being taught.

Nita’s Day: More Signs for Babies and Parents is not just for children, it engages parents as well and serves as a great introduction for anyone wanting to learn the basics of American Sign Language.

    Sara Brezzi: Illustrator Headshot

    About the Illustrator

Sara Brezzi, an Italian surface pattern designer and illustrator, was born and raised in the small town of Poppi, near Florence. She still lives there with her partner and their little boy. Her father was a librarian and her mother was a kindergarten teacher, so she grew up surrounded by beautiful books and images. This certainly influenced her imagination.

She graduated from the University of Siena with a BA in the preservation of cultural heritage and the history of illustration, but she always preferred the application over the theory of art. Her designs are hand-drawn and then scanned in for processing and color management. She loves creating colorful illustrations by combining cheerful and quirky elements to convey a positive vibe and spread joy!
