Alexis introduces Nala to other children with limb disabilities and helps her understand that having a disability doesn’t mean you can’t achieve extraordinary things. Nala is inspired by Alexis and her friends and can’t wait to tell her parents all about her exciting day!
The story invites readers to see people with limb disabilities through fresh eyes, as individuals with unique talents and capabilities who should be defined by what they can do – not what they cannot. At the same time, depictions of different races, gender, sexual orientations, cultures, and beliefs encourage readers to be inclusive in the way they view society. Colorful digital illustrations reinforce these ideas, depicting diverse characters working and having fun together. A glossary at the end of the story helps readers understand the new terms they have come across with regard to both disability and activism.
