What to expect: Bible stories, prayers, Christian interest

This exciting boxed set of books is a perfect introduction to the Bible and the act of prayer for even the smallest children.

A FIRST BIBLE STORY BOOK covers both the Old and New Testament, including favorite stories from each. There’s the story of Noah’s Ark, Moses in the Bulrushes, the First Christmas, and the Last Supper. Each of the stories is told in simple, bright language that appeals to a young audience. The stories are illustration-heavy, which is especially helpful when getting new readers to take an interest in the Bible. The selection of stories were well-chosen, and many would make excellent bedtime stories. Some of the heavier topics are rightfully glossed over for this age group, but the heart of the stories still stand.

A FIRST BOOK OF PRAYERS is a simple prayer book for young children. Many of the prayers are free-form, asking God for help with every day matters of which young children will certainly relate. The prayers range from asking for blessings on family, friends and pets, to asking God to help deal with annoying brothers and sisters. Parents might get a chuckle out of a few of the prayers (“Dear Lord, Thank you for our hamster,”), but little children will definitely enjoy the prayer selection. This book also features some nice illustrations to brighten the pages and help keep children’s attention.

Together in a sturdy boxed set, these two books would make an excellent baptism or Christmas present. The box itself is illustrated with scenes from the included Bible stories, and has shiny bronze accents that make this stand out on a shelf.
