Althea’s Window Box and the Land of Slumber

by Jason Leon Britsas (Author),  Mason Parker (Illustrator)

A children’s book celebrating both the beauty of nature and the beauty inherent in dreams, imagination, and discovery; encourages timeless values of strength, character, and courage along the way.

“When I read [Althea’s Window Box and the Land of Slumber], a peaceful feeling overcame me, one I hadn’t felt in a long time…It felt magical as I followed along on Althea’s journey. It’s definitely a book for old and young alike.” ~ The Tkachuk Family

It is a bit of a paradox. When children, wrapped in a blanket of innocence, are the center of our universe, we have an opportunity as adults to convey to our beloved offspring that, as human beings, we are decidedly not the center of the universe.

Jason Leon Britsas sensitively conveys this lesson in his debut children’s book, Althea’s Window Box and the Land of Slumber. Althea, a young city girl, dreams that she journeys into the wilderness. Along the way, she encounters opportunities and challenges that require her to adapt to her new surroundings.

“In this adventure of discovery,” says Britsas, “Althea builds strength, courage, appreciation, character, and heart.”

She also learns that while she is indeed part of the universe, there is so much more to discover that, until now, she had literally never dreamed of. Dreaming, as Britsas convincingly demonstrates, is one way Althea can access the many realities existing beyond her – and our own – daily reality.

“My story book celebrates the vast beauty that is available to us every single day.”, comments Britsas.

As a recent reader, H. Weldon, writes, “I loved your children’s book! But, I put it to the real test and read it to my little three-year-old granddaughter Kayla. She listened intently (huge feat for a three-year-old), pointed at the pictures to make comments, and as soon as the story was over, she wanted to hear it all over again! A sure sign that the book was a hit!”

About the author: Jason Britsas, a native of San Diego, California, is inspired by the areas diverse geographical surroundings and the fact that, in a single day, he can swim in the ocean, hike the mountains, and explore the unique desert wilderness.
