What to expect: Contemporary romance, mental illness, family drama, comic writing

Audrey is doing okay now. Sure, she has to wear dark glasses at all times to avoid any sort of eye contact, she runs and hides when someone new comes in the room, and she has to see a therapist. But, other than that, she’s doing better. “Making progress,” as her therapist would say.

When Linus, her brother’s friend, comes around, Audrey finds herself entranced. For the first time since “the incident,” she can talk to someone outside of her family. He listens to her and doesn’t think she’s a freak for the dark glasses. And he’s swoon-worthy cute, so that doesn’t hurt. But can Audrey keep her progress chart going up, or will she relapse into a manic mess? Will a confrontation with her old tormenters reverse all of the changes she’s made, and screw up her new relationship with Linus?

Sophie Kinsella is the bestselling author of The Shopaholic Series. Her hilarious style of writing will entrance readers of any age. She has a keen insight into the mind of a teenager, and readers will nod along at her funny observations of her family and siblings. From Audrey’s mom’s obsession with The Daily Mail to her Dad jamming out on his old electric guitar, Kinsella brings comic levity that older readers will enjoy, too. I found myself laughing out loud as a parent and a former teen, identifying with both sets of characters. Highly recommended for teens and adults.
