What to expect: Animals, Numbers

Author Lola Schaefer has created another award-winning book in addition to her Just One Bite. This whimsical and educational book combines a love for both animals and numbers, which makes it a great way to get animal lovers excited about math while giving them the opportunity to learn more about the individual animals as well. It provides eleven fascinating examples of how animals experience a specific aspect of their life. For example, it allows children to picture numbers by demonstrating that caribou have on average ten different sets of antlers in their lifetime.

The playfully quaint illustrations are incredibly entertaining and allow the individual child to practice counting and picture numbers. Readers will be in awe on how many 1,000 really is when they see and can count all 1,000 illustrated seahorses on the page. This book is a great resource to help children become more excited about both nature and numbers. It is a wonderful choice for children ages 5 through 8 and will help kids with counting and practicing their mental math skills without even realizing it!
