One Awesome School

(August 2015) WANT TO INSPIRE TOLERANCE AND ACCEPTANCE IN THE CLASSROOM? NJ Special Education teachers, Thaïs Sherell J and Daniel Schmeidler, combine skills to address the ongoing stigma associated with special education students in mainstream classrooms. One Awesome School sets the stage for young readers to read and discuss the importance of tolerance and acceptance for students with physical and mental disabilities. In this children’s book, Vienna is a special girl with special needs. The children at her old school made fun of her because of her disabilities, so Vienna’s parents move her to a new school in New Jersey. The book explores emotions that special education students face and how an accepting environment can make a difference. The book is available on Amazon.com.

The author, Thaïs Sherell J, is an exemplary “agent of change.” She is a licensed Special Education teacher in New Jersey with a B.A. in English-Spanish and a M.P.A. in Public Administration. Thaïs embodies a diverse array of skills from multiple sectors which she passionately showcases in all her projects. Her projects holistically combine education, business and spiritual guide posts to effectively bring awareness to community concerns and introduce alternative conflict resolutions. Ms. Sherell is a spokesperson for arts-in-education, family preservation, community partnership and wholesome entertainment.

The illustrator, Daniel Schmeidler, has been drawing since he can remember. He works in education, helping kids of all backgrounds to find their unique routes to success. He has also worked at a product design firm, as a taxi driver and on a dairy farm. He lives in New Jersey with his wife, his three kids and pet bunny. He likes to bring all of his diverse experiences to enlighten his teaching and his work.
