We’re tickled pink to have Heather Swain in The Children’s Book Review house today. She’s the author of many splendid books and her brilliant new teen novel Josie Griffin Is Not a Vampire has been touted as Twilight meets The Breakfast Club. Carole P. Roman is former teacher turned businesswoman. She has successfully run a business with her husband that employs close to five hundred people. Her most favorite job is being grandmother to her two fairly new grandchildren and her most favorite occupation has always been sitting in that big, cozy armchair next to a bed, reading a great story to someone she loves.

Shiver me timbers, there are a great many things to admire in Carole P. Roman’s debut children’s book Captain No Beard- not least of which include the rich language, resourceful hero, and clever storytelling. Her imaginary tale might just inspire young readers to take a trip on the high seas.

We are excited to have two rising stars in the YA world, authors Kim Askew and Amy Helmes of the Twisted Lit series, visiting TCBR. Their irresistible debut novel Tempestuous will land in bookstores this December and Exposure will follow in January. Rather than report which novels they’re most anticipating reading, we asked them to describe which books inspired them from their adolescence.

Maggie Stiefvater is kind of a phenomenon. She’s the author of many bestselling YA novels including the Shiver trilogy, The Scorpio Races, and the Books of Faerie. She’s also an incredibly talented musician of multiple instruments and an astonishing visual artist. Her latest series The Raven Boys debuts this week.

We’re honored to have Thomas Beller contribute his family’s favorite books to The Children’s Book Review. Tom is a wonderful writer, the author of two books of fiction, Seduction Theory, and The Sleep-Over Artist, and a collection of personal essays, How To Be a Man.

Mac Barnett strikes us as kind of a mad genius. He’s published many bestselling books and he’s infused his delightfully offbeat sense of humor back into the land of children’s literature. It’s a pleasure to share his thoughts on some of his favorite books, time travel, his picture book manifesto, his undisputed rivalry with Adam Rex, and that remarkable sleuth Harriet the Spy with our readers.
