What to expect: Peppa Pig, Friendship, Valentine’s Day

Peppa Pig learns the meaning of Valentine’s day with the help of her parents.

Valentine’s Day is near, and Peppa Pig receives a delightful surprise in the mail! It’s a card from her friend, Zoe Zebra. Mummy and Daddy Pig explain to Peppa and her little brother George that a Valentine is a special card that you send people you love to tell them how much you care about them. Delighted, Peppa wants to make a card for Zoe and all of her other little friends. Then she has a smashing idea – to hold a party for all of her friends on Valentine’s Day. But purists won’t be disappointed, Daddy Pig does give Mummy Pig a nice card at the Valentine’s Day party, and everyone has a blast. Happy Valentine’s Day to all!

Peppa Pig is the star of her own show and oodles of books, so it’s no wonder that children adore her and her family’s stories. This is great for reluctant readers, as a child who has seen the show might be more interested in reading a book about her. I think what appeals most to certain children is the simplicity of the story. There are no high stress stakes, no dark twists, and no stressful cliffhangers. Just a sweet story starring sweet animal friends with a super happy ending. Parents of sensitive children will appreciate Peppa’s happy endings. There won’t be any nightmares after this one! The illustrations are colorful, just like the television show, and the writing is straightforward and easy to understand. As a bonus, there are special stickers included inside the book to keep the fun going.
