WELCOME TO THE CENTENNIAL STATE

In 1895, Katharine Lee Bates wrote the lyrics to the song “America the Beautiful” after a breathtaking visit to one of Colorado’s highest points, Pikes Peak. Her phrases “purple mountain majesties” and “amber waves of grain” perfectly describe the beauty of this state. The flat, grassy prairies—where buffalo once roamed—stop mid-state at the base of the majestic Rocky Mountains. These mountains are home to elk, moose, and bighorn sheep. They sit on deposits of silver and gold that beckoned prospectors west in the 1800s. Today visitors from all over the world flock to Colorado, attracted by the variety of things to see and do. From world-class skiing and mountain vistas to deserts, plains, and river-carved canyons, natural beauty and adventurous pursuits abound in Colorado.
