About Donna Maguire

I have always been a fan of children, curiosity, and imagination. After a personal loss, I left the advertising business behind to care for my grandbabies in Nevada. As I have done with my daughter Kaitlin, my niece and nephews I read to them often.

I loved seeing the reactions of my grandbabies as the characters came to life. I also believe that the love of reading is more nurture than nature. Something happened when having a new audience to read to—I was given a wonderful gift—my childlike wonder and curiosity were returned to me. It seemed only natural to make full use of this gift, to harness it and pursue my life-long passion for writing children’s books. With my grandbabies as muses what better time to start?

My Basset Hound, ‘Silly Willy Winston’ with the biggest ears ever, super large snout and huge heart provided ideal fodder as the main character in a children’s book series. He embodies all the qualities we hope for our children, including self-discovery, awareness, and acceptance, along with love, compassion and friendship. By nature, Silly Willy Winston is naturally curious, loves to follow trails and great at finding things. He is after all a Basset Hound. This makes him perfect for nurturing a child’s wonder for all the world’s amazing creatures, places, cultures, and mysteries.
