  • Stories are a wonderful way to help children cope with the loss of a beloved pet. This story appears to be a wonderful addition to any pet lovers library!

  • I have been an early childhood educator for the past 20 years. Early literacy is at the forfront of education. I am passionate about children’s literature. I even started a special collection for my daughter in order that she will have a very special children’s library when and if she has her own children. I started this collection many years ago. I would see extraordinary books at my school’s book fairs or I would find special books of interest at the book stores. I spotted a book review on “Remembering Oakley” several weeks after my family had to make the same excrutiating decision as Jacob and his family. We had to euthenize our beloved Mitzvah. Grief has no age boundaries. I want to thank you Mr. Schutt for writing a book that touches the hearts and souls of all pet lovers. This is one of those extraordinary books that will certainly go in my daughter’s collection as well as all my animal loving friends.

  • My children and I have been rescuing dogs (and cats) for the past 15 years. My daughter was going to rent a movie close to the house when she saw a hungry, dirty, skinny brown dog in the middle of the street. She lowered her window and said “brown dog, what are you doing?’ Well the homeless dog knew just what she was going to do…she jumped through the drivers side window and began kissing my daughter. That was 13 years ago and she has been an amazing companion and family memeber ever since. We are animal lovers and certainly can empathize with Jacob’s grief. Just weeks ater we had to make the same heartwrenching decision that Jacob and his family had to make, I saw “Pet Loss Publications” in my new Pet Talk magazine. I read the article on “Remembering Oakley” and thought…why didn’t I think of writing a children’s book about the same subject. I am, after all, an early childhood educator for 20 plus years. Thank you to Mr. Carl Schutt for putting my feelings as well as millions of people of all ages into a book.

  • I recently had to make the heartwrenching decision to euthenize my beautiful companion of 14 years. I asked everyone that loved Mitzvah to come to the house to celebrate the loved they shared, just as Jacob ultimatley had to go through the grieving process and then make the same decision to celebrate the wonderful life they shared. We all then caravaned to the vet and stayed with Mitzvah till her last breath. She touched the lives of so many with her kind, gentle ways.
The memories we share of Mitzvah are a blessing.
