Book overview: Both boys and girls will be inspired by the upbeat message of this story:
“Don’t give up! There are people, even in faraway places who care about you.”
Sabrina, a 10-year-old girl from a rural village in Zanzibar must decide whether to leave her family and fly to a faraway place for a heart surgery that could save her life. But who are these doctors? They are not from my country, she thinks, as she tosses and turns in her sleep.
This contemporary story of hope and big hearts is based on the work of Save A Child’s Heart, a humanitarian organization of volunteer doctors, nurses, and others who have saved the lives of over 2,600 children with congenital heart defects and trained doctors from all over the world.
Children will learn much about the spirit and anatomy of the human heart. The book includes real photos of an echocardiogram, a heart-lung machine communication boards, heart diagrams, and a vocabulary list.
Older children who have difficulty reading will enjoy this book because it is simply written but delivers high content.
