Jackson’s Aviation Adventure, Rita Goldner | Press Release
The Children’s Book Review | May 10, 2015
“Jackson’s Aviation Adventure”, written and illustrated by Rita Goldner, is a warm, whimsical story for readers aged 4 to 8. Brightly colored, lively illustrations enhance the story of Jackson, who loves painting, and uses his paints to explore the world around him and his imagination. He has found a different way to learn, and the key to making education fun.
In this adventure, Jackson is about to take his first plane flight alone. To calm his jitters, he used his favorite activity, painting, to explore aviation: the history, physics, and the workers he meets on his trip. The story employs the Common Core Standards for children’s literature by presenting a character who responds to a challenge, and by showing how a series of concepts, both historical and scientific, lead him to a conflict resolution. Another Common Core guideline followed in this e-book is to ensure that the illustrations contribute to what is conveyed by the words in a story (e.g. create mood, and emphasize aspects of a character or setting)
In an effort to share the fun that art can bring to education, Goldner has created a weekly blog about the Jackson’s Adventure series at www.jacksonsadventures.com. In addition to periodic updates on new adventures, the blog offers a coloring page that a follower can print out, with black and white illustrations, based on the colored pages in the e-book. Goldner’s creative agenda with this work is to combine splashy, colorful pictures, a young protagonist who uses his special talent to confront problems, and some serious content about history and science. All this, and a blog to share the coloring fun, is a winning combination.
