Silly Willy Winston is a Basset Hound with the biggest ears ever, a stout frame, huge paws and a super large snout. These traits can seem a bit awkward at first since he trips over his ears and paws often which can make him a bit of a clown. However, young readers are taken along with Silly Willy Winston on a journey of self-discovery, awareness and acceptance. Along with Silly Willy Winston they learn that while these traits can seem a bit awkward at times — they are just what he needs to help his friends to over come fears, embrace challenges and have amazing adventures. About Donna Maguire

I have always been a fan of children, curiosity and imagination. After a personal loss I left the advertising business behind to care for my grand babies in Nevada. As I have done with my daughter Kaitlin, my niece and nephews I read to them often.

I loved seeing the reactions of my grand babies as the characters came to life. I also believe that a love of reading is more nurture than nature. Something happened when having a new audience to read to—I was given a wonderful gift—my childlike wonder and curiosity was returned to me. It seemed only natural to make full use of this gift, to harness it and pursue my life-long passion of writing children’s books. With my grand babies as muses what better time to start?

My Basset Hound, ‘Silly Willy Winston’ with the biggest ears ever, super large snout and huge heart provided ideal fodder as a main character in a children’s book series. He embodies all the qualities we hope for our children, including self-discovery, awareness and acceptance, along with love, compassion and friendship. By nature, Silly Willy Winston is naturally curious, loves to follow trails and great at finding things. He is after all a Basset Hound. This makes him perfect for nurturing a child’s wonder for all the world’s amazing creatures, places, cultures and mysteries.
