About the Author
Born in Göttingen, Germany, Lian Sommer remembers spending a lot of his childhood outside, discovering the parks, streets, and playgrounds of the small city in which he resided. Raised as a free thinker, his parents sent him to schools that encouraged that. He loved the late 90s. Although he played many video games, he never lost touch with real life the way he did in recent years.
After graduating from communication design studies, he ended up working in a tech startup in Lisbon, Portugal. This took its toll as he looked more at screens than at people’s faces. It felt unnatural, so he quit and made this book. A book that should act as a reminder to you and your kids to find the right balance between having real experiences and the endless stream of distraction that technology offers.

Divert and distract – provide an experience where you are engaged with your child…like reading together!
I would love to win this book for my sons, playing oard games keeps the electronics turned off.
spending precious time with my 4 grandchildren is meaningful. We read, play board games and go to parks and ride bikes. There is so much that they enjoy and appreciate.
What a unique book! I think it’s helpful to be a good example & spend time with your kids in a way where all of you unplug for awhile. They can also earn vouchers for extra screen time when they do things to help out or when they suggest family activities that don’t involve screen time. Thanks!

My daughters would love this book and it would encourage them to unplug once in awhile!
I think letting kids know the rules is vital in managing their screen time beforehand, and then giving them a 10-minute warning makes the sign-off not so abrupt and negative a moment. Which of us would like to be yanked off unexpectedly in the middle of a game, show, or interaction because, “Time’s up”, even if that was agreed upon days before? Help them be prepared so that they can respond more positively.
I would like this book for my granddaughter. She loves cats. My tip is to try and have a playroom with no tv or other electronics in it.
My tip on managing screen time is to set a timer and make it clear to my children that they have to stop once the timer goes off. They are really good at cooperating with that rule.
This is so cute my grandkids would love reading it and would unplug while we do it.
We go out and do outdoor activities!
I just wish my parents had limited my screentime. We’re gonna find some serious workarounds when I have kiddos.

We limit some screen time by doing family activities together!
I would like to win this book because it would be pertinent to my grandchildren’s lives. Screen time must be limited. Be clear with kids on the rules and be consistent in enforcing it (which is the hardest part!).

Provide the children with age appropriate programs. My girls started using the computer when they were very young and both have STEM jobs because they are proficient in technology.
My son and his wife are good at managing screen time but I have a harder time with the grandchildren. I’m not as creative or energectic at figuring out what they can do .
I think encouraging reading paper books and time outdoors helps to lessen children’s screen time. Also, just setting limits on screen time. I would love to win this book because we like cats and have children the right age to enjoy this book.
