I believe one of the most important things we can do to expand our minds is to read. It inspires and educates, while offering us an escape into worlds we would otherwise never experience. My most anticipated reads are a mixture of series continuations and stories that stand alone, in a variety of different genres. There are so many amazing books releasing this year it was hard to choose just five, but here goes…

Set during a zombie-threatened Civil War Era where the minority populations are required to attend combat schools to learn to put down the dead, our great nation is at a crossroads like we’ve never seen. There aren’t many authors I fangirl over, but Sabaa Tahir is one of them. I heard her speak at a conference a few years ago. But when I heard her talk about the discrimination and resulting fear that plagued her childhood and how she dealt with it by writing her first novel, she became one of my author heroes.
