Five YA books on the TOP of the TBR Pile of Lorie Langdon, author of Olivia Twist

I believe one of the most important things we can do to expand our minds is to read. It inspires and educates, while offering us an escape into worlds we would otherwise never experience. My most anticipated reads are a mixture of series continuations and stories that stand alone, in a variety of different genres. There are so many amazing books releasing this year it was hard to choose just five, but here goes…

    Book Dread NationDread Nation

    Written by Justina Ireland

This alternate history story is part suspense, part horror, and part cultural revolution. Set during a zombie-threatened Civil War Era where the minority populations are required to attend combat schools to learn to put down the dead, our great nation is at a crossroads like we’ve never seen. Zombie books are not normally my cup of tea, but I’ll make an exception for this one! DREAD NATION releases April 3rd.

A Reaper at the Gates (An Ember in the Ashes)A Reaper at the Gates (An Ember in the Ashes)

    Written by Sabaa Tahir

There aren’t many authors I fangirl over, but Sabaa Tahir is one of them. I heard her speak at a conference a few years ago. I was already in love with her debut novel, An Ember in the Ashes, an inspiring story set in a middle eastern fantasy world. But when I heard her talk about the discrimination and resulting fear that plagued her childhood and how she dealt with it by writing her first novel, she became one of my author heroes. The third novel in this phenomenal series, A REAPER AT THE GATES releases June 12th.

A Touch of Gold by Annie SullivanA Touch of Gold

    Written by Annie Sullivan

A TOUCH OF GOLD is a YA fantasy about the daughter of King Midas. After the king’s gift—or curse—almost kills his daughter, Midas relinquishes The Touch forever. But his daughter has powers of her own. I had the privilege to meet this author at the ALA MidWinter conference this year and she is a delight, which makes me even more excited to read her debut novel! A TOUCH OF GOLD releases August 14th.

Meet the Sky by McCall HoyleMeet the Sky

    Written by McCall Hoyle

This contemporary YA is set during a hurricane in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. As a writer, I’m fascinated to read how the author uses this natural disaster as a catalyst for conflict and character growth. This book is from my publisher, Blink YA Books, but even if it wasn’t the tag line would’ve hooked me: Meet the Sky is a story of love, letting go, and the unstoppable power of nature. It releases September 4th.

The Dark Days Deceit (A Lady Helen Novel)The Dark Days Deceit (A Lady Helen Novel)

    Written by Allison Goodman

This is the third and final installment of the Dark Days trilogy that began with The Dark Days Club and continued with The Dark Days Pact. This supernatural regency era series is one of my favorites of recent years. It is superbly written and meticulously researched. The historical setting is seamlessly woven with the fantasy elements, making it seem possible that a proper lady could be a demon hunter disguised in a pretty gown. THE DARK DAYS DECEIT releases November 20th.

    Olivia Twist Book CoverOlivia Twist

    Written by Lorie Langdon

Publisher’s Synopsis: Olivia Twist is an innovative reimagining of Charles Dickens’ classic tale Oliver Twist, in which Olivia was forced to live as a boy for her own safety until she was rescued from the streets. Now eighteen, Olivia finds herself at a crossroads: revealed secrets threaten to destroy the “proper” life she has built for herself, while newfound feelings for an arrogant young man she shouldn’t like could derail her carefully laid plans for the future.

Olivia Brownlow is no damsel in distress. Born in a workhouse and raised as a boy among thieving London street gangs, she is as tough and cunning as they come. When she is taken in by her uncle after a caper gone wrong, her life goes from fighting and stealing on the streets to lavish dinners and soirees as a debutante in high society. But she can’t seem to escape her past … or forget the teeming slums where children just like her still scrabble to survive.

Jack MacCarron rose from his place in London’s East End to become the adopted “nephew” of a society matron. Little does society know that MacCarron is a false name for a boy once known among London gangs as the Artful Dodger, and that he and his “aunt” are robbing them blind every chance they get. When Jack encounters Olivia Brownlow in places he least expects, his curiosity is piqued. Why is a society girl helping a bunch of homeless orphan thieves? Even more intriguing, why does she remind him so much of someone he once knew? Jack finds himself wondering if going legit and risking it all might be worth it for love.

Olivia Twist is a jacketed hardcover with decorative embossing.
