Feyre is a huntress in the wild woods, bringing home whatever she can to keep her family fed and off of death’s doorstep. Her mother is gone, her father is incapable, and her sisters are next to useless. So when she sees a majestic, over-large wolf roaming the forest, she kills it and sells it for a good price.

Only, the wolf was not just a wolf. An enormous beast comes to her door demanding to know who killed one of his brothers. The wolf was not just a wolf, but one of the mystical fae who rule the lands from afar. He takes Feyre as prisoner and brings her back to his estate in the land of the fae. At first she is terrified and spitting mad. After all, who will feed her family? How will they take care of themselves without her there to protect her? But as time wears on, and the enchantments of the beautiful estate and easy life wear on her, Feyre relaxes. The beast who took her as payment is not such a beast, but a devastatingly handsome and completely deadly faerie named Tamlin. The sensual tension grows between them, steering Feyre away from her plans to escape.

A blight is taking over the faerie country, taking away magic and letting loose evil monsters that will eventually storm through the walls and go on to the human lands where Feyre’s family and friends are still live. A riveting turn of events thrusts Feyre into a dangerous situation between Tamlin, an evil Queen, and saving her family from the monsters.

Maas is a masterful story teller. If it wasn’t enough that she was already the author of the best-selling THRONE OF GLASS series, this would surely put her on top. A COURT OF THORNS AND ROSES is exciting, action-packed and full of sensual tension. This book is steamy!

Feyre is feisty and a heroine we can root for, and her complicated relationship with Tamlin and the other fae gives the story more to sink your teeth in to. Her writing is fantastic, fully engrossing you in the gorgeous setting and pulse-pounding drama building around our heroine. The characters are overall exciting, nuanced, and charismatic. Throw in a nasty villainess and creepy monsters and you’ve got a great new series for fans of fantasy, romance and anything faerie. Highly recommended.
