All the Other Nuggies is Jeff Minich’s second book in his illustrated children’s book series based on life-lessons learned from dogs. In All the Other Nuggies readers are introduced to Coco and are taught a lesson about loneliness and self-acceptance.
Sweet and adorable Coco is homeless and alone. Everyday Coco watches other dogs play at the park while she stays alone in a safe hiding place. Coco remains hidden because she isn’t quite sure of herself or her appearance—hiding feels like the best option. When Chomper, a pooch from the park, discovers her, Coco needs to decide if she will join in on some park fun with all of the other Nuggies or if she will continue to just watch them from her hiding place.
With minimal text, Jeff Minich does a very nice job of showing the reader that all kinds of personalities and appearances are what make us unique and special. Our individual qualities are what can lead to wonderful experiences if we push aside our fears. Self-perception can certainly hold anybody back from new things, so All the Other Nuggies sends a great message to young readers that opening one’s self up to new situations can lead to fun opportunities and the chance to make new friends. And, in Coco’s situation, opening up could possibly even find her a home.
Renan Garcia’s cartoon illustrations are endearingly relatable and oozing with an empathetic quality; he knows just when to add worry, glee and humor.
Ready to be read aloud or read quietly with preschool age children, All the Other Nuggies is a welcome addition to the Nuggies series.

His Nuggies illustrated children’s book series is based on life-lessons as learned through the experience of some of his favorite canine friends.
