What to expect: World Travel, Thailand, Adventure

Aya and her big brother, Bobby, are traveling all the way across the world to Thailand – the land of smiles! As they pack their clothes and prepare for the long trip, they start to get excited. They’re going to get to watch all the movies they want! They’ll get to wear pajamas on the plane to keep cozy and they’ll even sleep on the plane. What a great way to begin their adventure!

When they get to Bangkok, Thailand, they discover the delightful little carts called Tuk Tuks. After a quick rest in their hotel, they go out on a Tuk Tuk to explore the city. First, they visit a Buddhist temple and explain the basic principles of Buddhism. Then they climb aboard a long boat to explore the canals of Bangkok and the beautiful sights. From the boat they see the famous Temple of Dawn, a giant elephant and her trainer, traditional Thai houses on stilts and much more. Then they move to the beach for the rest of their trip, and enjoy swimming in jewel-toned waters with colorful fish to nibble their toes. They try Thai food and learn that it is delicious, and end their explorations with a tasty cone of ice cream for each of them. Aya and Bobby learn that Thailand is a beautiful, exciting country with friendly people and unforgettable experiences. It really is the land of smiles, just like their parents said.

This book is a terrific primer for children traveling to Thailand. The story perfectly illustrates the excitement of going on a plane trip to a foreign country and will help children prepare for each step of their journey. The illustrations are vivid and colorful. Children will enjoy pointing out the details in the illustrations, including the delicious-looking food and sweet animals and fish. Even adults will learn a thing or two about Thailand’s friendly people and beautiful national treasures. Recommended for children traveling to Thailand, or for those who have the hearts of world-travelers!

About the Author and Illustrator

At the beginning of 2016, author Christina Kristoffersson Ameln, with her husband and two young children, decided to dig into their bucket list and explore South-East Asia. It proved to be an amazing experience of new perspectives and life lessons for her and her whole family.

Christina has been travelling since before she could walk and decided children’s books on travel and discovery would be a wonderful opportunity to share corners of the world to all that enjoy, want to, and dream of discovering new places.

Part of the journey was partnering up with illustrator Seonaid MacKay. Her background from the Glasgow School of Art and The Royal College of Art with her personal style of illustrations was the right mix to bring alive the journey of ‘Aya & Bobby’.

Seonaid loves travelling because it’s exciting to go to new places and see how people live differently, all over the world.
