The five sassy ladies at Girls in the Stacks kindly agreed to share their YA reading picks for the new year with TCBR. You must check out their entertaining video author interviews and bookish podcasts that feature in-depth conversations. Without further ado, here are their top YA selections for January-February 2013. Happy reading and Happy New Year!!

There’s nothing that we at Girls in the Stacks like better than sipping a venti non-fat, half-decaf zebra mocha heavy on the foam, light on the whip with sprinkles. Unless, of course, we’re sipping that zebra mocha while reading a great book. Lucky for us, 2013 appears to be the year of great reads. Here are five books that are on our wish list:

The Indigo Spell

By Richelle Mead

This is THE series for YA paranormal readers. The Indigo Spell is the third book in the Bloodlines series and everything is about to be taken up a notch. In a very good way. Those of us in the know are all over the Sydrian romance and the plight that will follow. Seriously, who can resist star-crossed lovers?

Crash

By Lisa McMann

We are longtime fans of Lisa, which means her books are automatic reads. This book is about a girl named Jules who lives above her parents’ pizza parlor and her shocking visions. After reading the description like a million times coupled with that cover, with the eye. And flames. WHOA.

Just One Day

By Gayle Forman

Just saying the name Gayle Forman conjures happy faces all around. Plus with a blurb like, “a breathtaking journey toward self-discovery and true love,” we are hooked. We can’t wait to discover more about Allyson “LuLu” Healey and Willem De Ruiter. We KNOW this journey will be good.

The Madman’s Daughter

By Megan Shepherd

This gothic thriller inspired by H. G. Wells’s The Island of Dr. Moreau, is sure to be a hit. Juliet Moreau is destitute thanks to her father’s disturbing ways, but fate intervenes and with two dashing young men she journeys to a remote island and must make hard choices. Oh, yes. This sounds like a perfect chilly weather read.

Ages 13 and up | Publisher: HarperCollins Publishers | January 29, 2013

Altered

By Jennifer Rush

The description of this book makes our hearts palpitate. Anna is on the run with four genetically altered boys from the Branch. What girl wouldn’t want to be in Anna’s shoes? This book is bound to be action packed with lots of angst and swoony moments.

Ages 12-17 | Publisher: Little, Brown Books for Young Readers | January 1, 2013
