I wanted my selfie to show that A GIRL UNDONE continues the story of A GIRL CALLED FEARLESS. Both were inspired by asking what would happen if teenage girls in America had to live with the same laws and limits on their freedom that affect young women in developing nations.
Readers can read A GIRL UNDONE on its own or after reading A GIRL CALLED FEARLESS. Avie’s on the run from Homeland Security with a handsome, enigmatic woodsman named Luke. Avie’s carrying a thumb drive with secrets that can take down the Paternalist Party, and possibly free millions of girls to live the lives they want if she can get the information to the right person. But when Avie is caught and returned to the billionaire politician who owns her marriage contract, she must bargain for her life and she discovers that living with who you’ve become can be even harder than staying alive.
Bookshelves are life stories. You can see my love of marine life in the crystal dolphins and sea otters. On the top shelf, are signed books by author friends like Ann Stampler and mentors like Tim Wynne-Jones. The next shelf displays fiction and poetry classics, including my favorite dystopians: FEED, THE GIVER, and THE ADORATION OF JENNA FOX. Tucked in with them oddly enough are memoirs by people obsessed with animals like a woman with her pet snail or a Londoner and his mini-pig.
The shelf below holds classics of children’s lit like the CHRONICLES OF NARNIA, THE GOLDEN COMPASS, BECAUSE OF WINN DIXIE, and KING OF THE WIND. And finally on the bottom are well-loved picture books I read to my children like GOODNIGHT GORILLA, and books I’ll never part with like my ELOISE signed by Hilary Knight, and stories lavishly illustrated by the brilliant Russian painter Gennady Spirin.

Catherine Linka is the author of A Girl Called Fearless and its sequel, A GIRL UNDONE: A Novel (A St. Martin’s Griffin Hardcover; June 23, 2015). A Girl Called Fearless was an ABA Indie Next Pick and won the Young Adult Novel Award 2014 from the Southern California Independent Booksellers Association. A Girl Called Fearless and A GIRL UNDONE are currently in development for a television series with Universal Cable Productions.
A frequent speaker at writing and teen conferences, Catherine received her MFA from Vermont College of Fine Arts and worked as a young adult book buyer for an independent bookstore for seven years. Prior to pursuing a career in publishing, she studied international politics at Georgetown University before getting a master’s degree in business at the University of North Carolina.
