I Want To Do Yoga Too

By Carole P. Roman

Paperback: 24 pages

Reading level: 2-6 years

What to expect: Yoga and separation

OM! A “divine” new mommy-and-me picture book that is sure to resonate with yogis, yoginis and enlightened mothers in yoga studios everywhere.

When young Hallie goes to the yoga studio with Mommy she does not want to go to the daycare; she proclaims: “I want to do yoga too, Mommy.” In no-sweat sentences, the daycare provider, Robin, swiftly takes over with her easy-to-like attitude and Hallie is soon, very happily, on her own little yoga adventure. At first she is unaware that the fun games Robin has her playing are actually yoga poses and the mantra of “I want to do yoga too” continues throughout the pages while the duo go through a stretch of poses that have Hallie pretending to be a tree (“[Peaceful, quiet, and strong.”), an airplane, a beautiful butterfly (“Feeling light as a feather.”) and a cobra. Writing guru Carole P. Roman effectively captures the innocence of children and their willingness to learn new things in a safe and fun setting. With a big “Hisssss” from the two posed cobras—and perfectly cued—Mommy arrives on the scene to collect Hallie, it’s time to go home, but Hallie can’t wait to come back again tomorrow. The illustrations neatly complement this sweet tale without detracting from the enjoyably simple text and they give visual cues that allow readers to join along and practice yoga with Hallie.

Preschoolers that frequent daycare, enjoy moving and pretending and yoga, or simply enjoy being just like their mommies, will get a real kick out of I Want To Do Yoga Too. Namaste!
