What to expect: Astronomy, Science, favorite characters

The Magic School Bus series has long delighted children and parents with their kid-friendly take on big scientific concepts. OUR SOLAR SYSTEM, a Magic School Bus companion book, is an excellent addition to the series.

Familiar friends like Ralphie, Keesha, Wanda and Carlos lead children on a journey through space. Each two-page spread features another planet or layer of our solar system, as well as numerous fun facts and rich, colorful pictures. Children will enjoy reading the inset school papers and fun “Frizzle Facts” with everyone’s favorite kooky teacher, Ms. Frizzle. Parents will enjoy remembering facts they probably knew by heart as a child – though some will be devastated that Pluto has been demoted from planet to Icy Dwarf. Even though the solar system hasn’t changed, our definitions have!

This would be an excellent resource for elementary-school book reports. At the end of the book are complete definitions of words or concepts like Gravity, Orbit and Radar. There’s a section too on space-related professions and what they do, including Astronomers, Astronauts and Astrobiologists. First kids can read about it, and then they can dream about what they might one day become.

A great book to gift to your budding astronomer or future astronaut, OUR SOLAR SYSTEM has fun and facts for all.
