Louie, a tiny dog, is here to tell you all about what was once a most spectacular life. Walks every day, sticky ice cream cones, and snuggles in bed made Louie’s life the most amazing ever.
But for some strange reason, things changed. His human mom’s friends started bringing around babies that liked to pull his ears and squeeze his tummy. Then his mom stopped feeding him from the table and ate pickles and cereal instead! But worst of all was her giant, growing, humongous belly. One night in bed, the belly kicked him!
Then his parents run off in the middle of the night without even a goodbye, and Louie decides he has had enough! He packs his things and attempts to run away. But when he’s found and returned home, can Louie make amends with the little bundle of baby his parents bring home?
POOR LOUIE is a hilariously relatable book for children (and if they could read, pets!). Louie echoes what many children are sure to think as preparations are being made for a new addition. Why are things different? Why aren’t I the center of attention anymore? What happened to my delicious dinners?! With the sweet and satisfying ending, readers can see that new children can be a welcome addition to the family – even for spoiled pups like Louie. Tony Fucile’s tongue-and-cheek story and sassy pup are sure to become your child’s favorite, and they’ll immediately request you read it again. The illustrations are bright and simple, letting Louie’s excellent facial expressions really shine. Fucile has a knack for bringing his characters to life and letting them jump off the page. By the end of the book, everyone will be giggling about POOR LOUIE.

Tony Fucile is the author-illustrator of Let’s Do Nothing! as well as the illustrator of the Bink and Gollie series by Kate DiCamillo and Alison McGhee and two books by Hallie Durand, Mitchell’s License and Mitchell Goes Bowling. He has spent more than twenty years designing and animating characters for numerous feature films. Tony Fucile lives in the San Francisco Bay Area.
