Rocket-Bye is one of the latest and greatest picture books from award-winning author, Carole P. Roman.

“Climb aboard to travel far,

Soar above the trees.

The moon glows brightly as we pass its smile

And head into the breeze.”

Two boys, one a toddler and the other slightly older, sit upon a rocket ship and sail through the air over cities and mountains into the Milky Way that beckons them closer. They float over constellations and zoom past planets in the “crazy quilt” of sparkling stars that decorate the universe. Just as a child goes through many stages of unwinding before they fall asleep, the boys bounce, coast, and loop-de-loop their way through the galaxy safely back to their beds for a good night’s sleep.

“[T]he only sound … a gentle snore.”

Just as the text and illustrations gently curve and sweep across the pages, so do the calming and effortless rhymes in what could be Carole P. Roman’s finest book yet. The illustrations are soft and airy, and have a dreamy quality about them. The illustrator uses warm and welcoming colors with a dusky mid-blue for the sky and vivid splashes of orange and red streaking the planets and pages.
