The Children’s Book Review: Which five words best describe Teach Your Child Meditation: 70 Fun & Easy Ways to Help Kids De-Stress and Chill Out?

Lisa Roberts: Playful, Educational, Engaging, Resourceful, and Essential

Can you share one highlight from the book?

I’m not sure there is one particular highlight per se, but I think a lot of parents (and children) are surprised to learn that meditation can be approached with a sense of fun and play. Even kids typically challenged by being still will find a technique in the book that meets their ability so they can be successful at meditation.

What has been the best reaction from a reader, so far?

A mom told me she caught her 7-year-old daughter out of bed after 9pm. When asked why she was up when she was supposed to be in bed, the daughter told her she was practicing yoga and that she did it almost every night – grabbing the book she proceeded to demonstrate two techniques from the book. Her mom was astounded, she had no idea her child was self-teaching meditation and yoga using the book.

Why do you think meditation books are an important part of a child’s home library?

Meditation is an essential life skill and providing the right tools for your child to learn essential skills is what good parents do!

For your writing energy: sugar or salt, tea or coffee?

Coffee to kick start, herbal tea and sparkling water to sustain. I am a grazer—I snack on raw nuts, fresh fruit and dark chocolate while working.

Writing tools: computer, pen and paper, or all of the above?

Both! I love making notes and jotting ideas down on paper, once words and ideas begin to flow I switch to the computer as I can’t read my handwriting—especially if I try to write fast to keep up with my brain!

What’s on your nightstand? Any books?

An old photo of my husband and I on a trip to Spain when we were dating, a tube of foot-cream that I’m usually too tired/lazy to apply at night, and a small stack of books:

The Science of Yoga, by William J. Broad

The Essential Rumi, by Coleman Barks

The Four Agreements, by Don Miguel Ruiz

We Were the Lucky Ones, by Georgia Hunter

Girl Last Seen, by Nina Laurin

Can you tell us something that even your most loyal fans may not know about you?

I absolutely hated my first yoga experience. It took me five years to even consider trying yoga again. I am glad I did!

Is there anything else you would like to share with our readers?

I hope readers enjoy my book and are inspired to approach meditation and yoga with a sense of play, joy and creativity.
