What to expect: Positive Body Image, Gratefulness

Thank You, Me is a delightful picture book that delivers a loving message of self-acceptance to both children and adults.

A young girl wearing a green dress with a big red heart, supported by her friendly companions—the lovable hedgehog, cat, giraffe, and purple fuzzy monster—asks the reader:

“When you look in the mirror,

Do you like what you see?”

She answers this question with, “I hope you do!” And then goes on to encourage readers to be thankful and grateful for the body they have. All of the sensory body parts typically discussed with youngsters are included: eyes, ears, nose, mouth, and hands. Then the young girl takes it to the next level and calls for an appreciation of the lungs, brain, and, most endearingly, the heart.

Thank You Me Illustration

Author-Illustrator Elena Reznikova uses catchy rhymes and colorful illustrations to create what can be summed up as a heartfelt book with a positive impact. Her delivery certainly coveys to a younger audience what a miracle our bodies are. The use of different animals—fictitious and real—create inviting scenes that covertly showcase that it doesn’t matter what size, shape, or color you are.

Thank You, Me will surely lead to an empowering bonding moment when read together with your child. It would make a nice choice for caregivers interested in fostering positive body image through gratitude and self-acceptance. Pairing Thank You, Me with the author’s matching gratitude journal is also recommended.
