What to expect: Romance, Football, Paranormal, and Soul Mates

Set in the fictional town of Bulwark, Georgia, indie author Brit Lunden explores the magnetic pull of soul mates, JB and Ellie, in this romance meets paranormal novella. “It’s the Knowing. It’s that feeling when you gonna meet your someone special …”

While the story begins and ends in the present day with the chiming of an antique regulator clock, the majority of this story takes place in the 1960s. In the beginning, an older JB helps a husband and wife from a car wreckage outside of his home located in the woods of Bulwark. The wife suffers a concussion from the car accident, and when she sees a photo of Ellie she claims that Ellie is a witch that stole her children. JB’s mind drifts to his memories of that first feeling of Knowingnew girl Ellie when she moved to town 52 years earlier. Destined to work his family peanut farm, JB is plucked from his town on a full scholarship by University of Alabama’s head football coach Bear Bryant. This causes struggles with his family and also separates him from his Ellie. Will a full life of love be withheld from true soul mates?Brit Lunden, who specializes in tales of the paranormal, sets the scene with a ghostly backdrop and a strong air of mystique that leads to an unequivocal spiritual ending. As JB’s memories unfold, Lunden folds in elements of romance and eerie dreams of the Civil War. The formal definition of bulwark is something that provides protection for or against something. One might wonder if the essence of protection in this novella is the connection of soul mates. Or is it something greater here, something more spiritual, such as destiny? The Knowing: A Bulwark Anthology: Volume 1 is a fast read that will certainly creep into your heart (filling it with both sadness and happiness) and leave you pondering the greater meaning of the story.

Stemming from Brit Lunden’s debut novella Bulwark, there are currently 8 volumes in A Bulwark Anthology, with the latest addition being The Darkness by debut author Brittney Leigh. Each volume of the anthology brings a new depth to the town of Bulwark and the people that reside there.
