Crimson is a young, lonely dragon with a special gift – he sheds scales that turn into precious, beautiful rubies. Because of this, his mother keeps him in a cave high up on the mountain, where no greedy dragons can harm him or steal his piles upon piles of rubies.
One day, Princess Penelope ventures up to his cave. She’s looking for love, and has been told that someone in the cave might be able to help her. Sure enough, Crimson is guarding a rare ruby necklace that belongs to a handsome prince. If a princess puts it on and it glows, they will find true love together. It seems perfect that the necklace glows when she puts it on, and she rushes to the village to complete the ritual to find her prince. Meanwhile, a nasty dragon from across the countryside finds Princess Penelope and her beautiful ruby necklace. This sets off a chain of events that threatens the whole village. Can Crimson help Princess Penelope and the villagers? And will they all find love and happiness in the end?
This is a sweet book for young fans of fantasy. There are dragons, fairies, a prince and a princess, and more precious jewels than can fit in a dragon’s treasure chest. The book is short and the writing is sparse, making it easier for younger readers that are just mastering the art of reading. Crimson is sympathetic, and children will immediately be drawn to his sweet nature and sparkly powers. The book has a message of love and courage and a very happy ending, making this a not-too-scary fantasy adventure.
