The first three books of this 10 book series have more than 2.5 million copies in print. DreamWorks have bought the movie rights, and there is an on-line game and collectible trading cards. This is a series that has been designed to be completely interactive and give a unique flair to reading—in other words, “Calling all reluctant readers.” You can read my reviews of Book 1, Book 2, and Book 3, if you’re not familiar with the series; but if you’ve been keeping up—chances are you’re actually ahead—here is my review of book 4.

Mysteries are a great way to hold the attention of a young reader. They’re even better when they’re spiced up with international travel and famous people. Book 4 takes place in Egypt where the Cahill siblings (Dan and Amy) find themselves exploring ancient tombs, studying hieroglyphics, meeting old family friends who had connections with their deceased grandmother, and having major run-ins with members of their extended family (rivalry is big in this book). Each previous book in the series has introduced many historically famous people. In book 4, Dan and Amy discover that Napoleon, Thomas Edison, and Marie Curie are connected with their unique and, seemingly, powerful family. The author, Jude Watson has masterfully thickened the plot and increased the level of reading adrenaline. Beyond the Grave is a quick and intensely enjoyable read.
