    What to expect: Determination, Education

If the gods wanted Akash to have an education, he is told, they would give him one. But Akash has spent his entire twelve years poor and hungry. So he decides to take control of his own life and try for a scholarship to the city school where he can pursue his beloved math. But will challenging destiny prove to be more than he has bargained for? In this raw and powerful novel, fate and self-determination come together in unexpected ways, offering an unsentimental look at the realities of India.

Saraswati’s Way, sounds as though it would be a good read for our male students at NLBA. Thank you and many blessings to all who take part in making these giveaways possible.

This sounds like a great book…I love books that talk about how important it is for one to get an education…especially when the odds are against that person.I have 3 daughters so they would all love a chance to read this.In our house, books are like clothes, passed down to each child,so each book in our home is truly loved 🙂

This one is just beyond my youngest reader…but I think the story might be a good one — and a peek into another culture.

Hi! I just posted about the book here on my blog: http://thesecherishedmoments.blogspot.com/2010/11/another-book-giveaway.html
It’s so great to see a book where the characters don’t have the regular names like John,Sue,etc. With all the diversity here in the US it would be great of more chidren’s books had names from other ethnicities so that we could learn the names…so many of us have a hard time pronouncing foreign names b/c we’re not used to it & it can be embarassing. Thanks for the giveaway!

I would like to give this book to my son who likes math but is struggling with some math concepts, and they teach a different way than I learned years ago so I can’t really help him out.
