What's Your Favorite Animal? By Eric CarleWhat’s Your Favorite Animal?

    By Eric Carle

    Age Range: 4-8 years

    Hardback Book: 32 pages

Publisher: Henry Holt and Company, LLC (2014)

    ISBN: 978-0-8050-9641-5

What to expect: Animals and Stories

Every person could probably name their favorite animal and give reasons why it is their favorite. In Eric Carle’s What’s Your Favorite Animal?, he collaborates with fourteen renowned children’s book artists to create mini storybooks about a favorite animal. Each author names his or her favorite animal, explains why, and illustrates that animal. Each page is customized to that author’s persona, based upon the illustrations and personal stories. For example, Erin Stead describes how penguins are her favorite animal because they are awkward on land and she relates to this awkwardness because she is nervous by nature around people.

This book is truly inspirational and will prompt you to initiate such a project with your children. For a book-inspired great school break or weekend activity that you can do together, ask your child to write the name of his or her favorite animal, explain why it is his or her favorite, and draw a picture of the animal. And you could create one yourself too! This will definitely be a refrigerator masterpiece!

What’s Your Favorite Animal? is perfect for animal loving children ages 4-8 and will certainly inspire every reader’s inner artist.
