    Hama the Pig's Big Adventure

    Hama the Pig’s Big Adventure

Written and Illustrated by Alexis E. Fajardo

    Ages 3-7 | 34 Pages

    Publisher: Kid Beowulf Comics | ISBN-13: 9780990950592

What to Expect: Exploration, friendship, loyalty, adventure, Vikings

Hama spends his days wistfully watching the Viking ships setting out on adventures and wishing he could join them. Hama can’t go with them though, because he’s a pig, and pigs don’t go on adventures. Then, one day, just when Hama starts to think he is doomed to stay in his pigpen and be teased by little boys forever, he gets his chance! Loaded onto a Viking ship (along with the other food supplies), Hama sets sail and soon experiences storms, pirates, and shipwrecks. He’ll get his chance to be a hero at last, and will make some new friends along the way…

In this quirky, whimsical graphic novel meets picture book, young readers are introduced to seafaring history and multimodal text decoding at the same time. Comic-style illustrations invite readers to think beyond the words on the page, and add whole new levels of subtle humor to the story. Hama is a lovable and unlikely hero, offering readers the chance to see themselves in the role of adventurer. As well as a great introduction to the Kid Beowulf series, Hama the Pig’s Big Adventure is an enjoyable and uplifting tale, perfect for readers that are just getting familiar with the graphic novel genre.
