    Ivy-Lou and the Spooky Shoe

Written and illustrated by Alana Josephson

    Ages 5+ | 70 Pages

    Publisher: Independently published | ISBN-13: 9798838015754

What to Expect: Halloween themes (witches, monsters), rhyming, and facing fears.

Halloween is an exciting time for a pup named Ivy-Lou; she’s been anxiously anticipating its arrival all year. This Halloween becomes more frightening than expected when she encounters a spooky shoe. When Ivy-Lou takes the mysterious shoe home, her adventure begins. From trick-or-treating to flying high in the sky, Ivy-Lou learns Halloween can be more than the scary holiday she thought it to be. Instead, it becomes an enjoyable and fun time of year.

Alana Josephson has crafted a fun-to-read rhyming story featuring a not-so-fearless pup. Young readers who are working on decoding skills will greatly enjoy the ABAB rhyming scheme used along with the clear and large print text. Ivy-Lou and the Spooky Shoe would also be an entertaining read-aloud for younger students to celebrate the Halloween season and practice predictive rhyming. Along with a fun story, Josephson has created digital cartoon illustrations that will appeal to children. The use of Halloween-themed colors and themes strongly conveys the moods of Ivy-Lou, providing clarity to non-readers and enhancing the book’s reading experience.

Ivy-Lou and the Spooky Shoe is a fun and spirited Halloween story perfect for a younger audience.
