Jeffrey Marsh’s Selfie with How to Be You

I am an author. I am an Internet Star. I am a musician. I am a tap dancer. I sing. I drive stick. And I meditate each and every day. This is not to brag! It’s just to let you know that I like to stay busy. One of the things I’m doing lately is learning self portrait photography. I took this picture. I walked up the five flights in the summer heat to take this on my New York City Roof. (Yes, Roof gets a capital R when it’s a New York City Roof.) This is what How To Be You is all about: doing the work to be your bold big New York City Self. Unless of course, you don’t think that’s really you. In that case, #HowToBeYou will teach you how to discover what IS really you and love and accept whatever you discover. Part memoir, part advice, part craft book, this one is for everyone.

You’ll see that I’m vegan. You’ll see that I’m Buddhist (I’ve lived at a monastery before.) And you’ll see that I love the Golden Girls. As I mention in How To Be You, Wonder Woman has been an incredible hero of mine. But you can probably also guess that I have a lot of heroes. In fact, I have so many that I made up a new word for the book. Shiny, brand-spanking-new in gender-neutral glory: “hero/ine.” Finally a word for every book lover and every author and everyone who is willing to unabashedly be themselves.

How to Be YouHow to Be You: Stop Trying to Be Someone Else and Start Living Your Life

    Created by Jeffery Marsh

Publisher’s Synopsis: This book is about how to finally give up on feeling bad about yourself and discover the best person you can be.

An interactive experience, How to Be You invites you to make the book your own through activities such as coloring in charts, answering questions about how you do the things you do, and discovering patterns in your lives that may be holding you back. Through Jeffrey’s own story of “growing up fabulous in a small farming town”–along with the stories of hero/ines who have transcended the stereotypes of race, age, and gender–you will discover that you are not alone, can deepen your relationship with yourself, and find the courage to take a leap that will change your life.
